Elementary education in India has witnessed a steady growth over the years in enrolment of children from all sections of society. Significantly, a large part of the increase in enrolment has been from the historically marginalized and excluded sections of the society such as the SCs, STs, girls, and minorities (Govt. of India, Selected Educational Statistics 2004-05, Department of Higher Education, Statistics Division, New Delhi. 2007).

The India Biodiversity Awards were presented by Smt. JayanthiNatarajan, Minister of State for Environment and Forests, Government of India and Ms. RebecaGrynspan, UN Under-Secretary General and UNDP Associate Administrator at a ministerial reception hosted by the Ministry of Environment and Forests during the Eleventh Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversityon 17th October, 2012. The Awards recognize outstanding models of biodiversity governance across the country.

Aajeevika - National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) was launched by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India in June 2011. Aided in part through investment support by the World Bank, the Mission aims at creating efficient and effective institutional platforms of the rural poor enabling them to increase household income through sustainable livelihood enhancements and improved access to financial services.

Mr. Shailesh Nagar from NRMC India was invited to participate in a panel discussion on Climate Change Impacts on Agriculture in India in the recently concluded Livelihoods India conference in Delhi on 30th November, 2012. Mr. Nagar presented the findings from a sectoral review that NRMC India conducted on Women in Agricultural and focused on the Climate Change issues affecting Women in Agriculture.

NRMC India is assisting UNDP in instituting biodiversity awards to recognize outstanding governance models of biodiversity conservation in India. NRMC India will be publicizing the awards and assist in selection of final awardees in four different categories. The awards will be presented in four different categories. These awards will be presented in the COP11 of CBD to be held in Hyderabad, India from 8th to 19th of October, 2012. Please be on the look-out for more information on our website.
