Objective: Government of India promoted sanitation coverage through Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) to ensure better health and quality of life for people in rural India. To add vigour to its implementation, Government of India had launched an incentive scheme by the name “Nirmal Gram Puraskar” (NGP) for fully sanitized and open defecation free Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) viz, Gram Panchayats (GPs), Block Panchayat (BPs), Districts and States. The scheme had gained immense popularity in recent years. The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Rural Development had engaged NRMC as an Independent Agency for conducting survey in 374 GPs in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand to ascertain the claim of achievement made by PRIs
NRMC India’s Role:
Responsibility of NRMC as Survey Agency includes:
- To verify the application for Niramal Gram Puraskar (NGP) submitted by 374 Gram Panchayats.
- Physical verification of 19700 household toilets for their construction and usage
- Physical Verification of School and Anganwadi toilets and their functionality in all 374 GPs
- Certify the overall environmental cleanliness in allotted GPs
